It is located in Lao Cai Province of the Northwest region of Vietnam, 9 km (5.6 mi) southwest of Sapa town in the Hoang Lien Son mountain range.

The height of the mountain was 3,143 metres (10,312 ft) in 1909, but now the height of the mountain is 3,147.3 metres (10,326 ft). It is the highest mountain in the Indochinese Peninsula (comprising Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia), hence its nickname "the Roof of Indochina".

If you travel from Hanoi, you need to take either bus or train to Sapa. Then, you can take the Fansipan Monorail from Do Quyen Station near Ha Pagoda to reach Fansipan Peak, which is in a distance of 230 Meters at an altitude of 100 meters. This mountain train can carry a maximum of 60 passengers and takes only 2 minutes trip.

From Hanoi to Fansipan you can travel by bus, train, van, car + cable car. Travel distance from Hanoi to Fansipan Mountain in Sapa is totally about 325 km via cable car in Muong Hoa station. There are a few ways how you can reach Fansipan Mountain from Hanoi, it depends what type of transfer you will use to Sapa town.

Fansipan is worth a visit not only because it has some amazing views, but also because of all the Buddhist temples at the top. You'll literally be above the clouds.

It takes 1 or 2 days to complete the hiking trip. This depends on the hiking trail you will follow. Now you can opt to hike up to Mount Fansipan or take the cable car.

Hiking Fansipan is very tough. You should have hiking experience and good physical and condition. The altitude change from the starting place to the top is over 2000meter. To get the peak, you will need to take at least 1 day or 2 days.
